Driveway Alarm Advice
What Are Driveway Alarms
What Are Driveway Alarms ? - Which Driveway Alarm To Choose ? Best Driveway & Perimeter Alarm For Me ?
These are questions we get asked every single day, in our opinion there is not one single system that suits all situations, but there nearly always is a system to suit you.
Please see the two sections above that try to help our customers understand and choose the best type of Driveway & Perimeter Alarm for their own specific requirements, but still please feel free to contact us with any questions.
Wireless Transmission Range
What does 'Line of Sight' mean ? - If there is an object between the two locations, does it mean they do not work ?
These are the other two main questions we get asked daily, you will notice that when the manufacturers of Wireless Driveway & Perimeter Alarm Systems discuss Transmission Range between the Detector & Receivers they always quote 'Line of Sight'.
Because of this you know the optimum range in good weather conditions, but what has to be taken into account is what type and how many obstacles are between the detectors and receivers, in most applications you will find a system that will work in your enviroment including the obstacles and weather conditions.
When you have an object in between the detector & receiver, it doesn't result in a total loss of signal, (it actually just reduces the signal) therefore reduces the working range of the system, the reduction is subject to what type of and how many obstacles you have.
Listed below is a guide showing the type of materials and reductions that may be seen.
Materials: Degree of Reduction (Example Applications)
Air: None: (Open space, inner courtyard).
Wood: Low: (Door, floor, partition).
Plastic: Low (Partition).
Glass: Low (Untinted windows).
Tinted Glass: Medium (Tinted windows).
Water: Medium (Aquarium, fountains).
Living Creatures: Medium (Crowds, animals, people, plants).
Bricks: Medium (Walls).
Plaster: Medium (Partitions).
Ceramic: High (Tiles).
Paper: High (Rolls of paper).
Concrete: High (Load-bearing walls, floors, pillars).
Bulletproof Glass: High (Bulletproof windows).
Metal: Very high (Reinforced concrete, mirrors, metal cabinet, elevator cage).
Still Confused !!
