A: It depends on what you need; it is all about making a balanced choice, between the cost, looks, ease of fitting and strength.

You can choose from 3 types of operation

  1. Removable posts & hooped barrier, these posts you lock into place in the up right position, and then simple remove the padlock and store the post elsewhere when not in use. A choice of 4 removable posts to suit fitting and costs within this web site
  2. Fold down posts, these posts simple lock into the up right position or fold flat onto the ground, a choice of 5 fold down posts to suit fitting and costs within this web site
  3. Fully telescopic, this posts lock into place in the up right position and then fully detract into the ground when not in use. a choice of 3 fully telescopic posts to suit fitting and costs within this web site

Type of installation

Bolt down

  • These posts are simply bolted to the ground using suitable bolts and plugs, the easiest to fit
  • Advantages of bolt down
    • Easy to fit
    • Cheapest to fit
  • Disadvantages of bolt down
    • Only suitable for good concrete bases, loose ground, tarmac etc is unsuitable
    • Probably the weakest post when fitted

Spigot based posts :

  • These spigots are 300mm long, they are designed for loose ground and are cemented into the ground
  • Advantages of spigot based posts
    • Suitable for fitting into tarmac and loose ground situations
    • Easier and cheaper to fit than fully telescopic modules
  • Disadvantages of spigot based posts
    • Slightly harder to fit than the bolt down posts
    • Not as strong as the fully telescopic posts

Fully telescopic

  • These posts are cemented into the ground at a depth of 740mm, they are by far the most asthetic to the eye, and the strongest way to fit a post
  • Advantages of the fully telescopic posts
    • By far the strongest way to fit a security post
    • By far the best looking post when not in operation
  • Disadvantages of the fully telescopic posts
    • They are more expensive than the other options
    • They are harder to fit
    • They would be more expensive to have fitted
